Summary

"sometimes that life chooses you back。"That is the most touching sentence I've read in as long as I can recall of late。 This was a story that was sweet yet bittersweet, magical yet bureaucratic。。。。。I love that this story shows acceptance both of love being love and of differences people can have。 It's deep and yet couched in words that make it that I'm as comfortable with my 11 year old reading it asi was with my reading。。。 Ok maybe not fully but only coz my kid, Talia and Lucy would be a terrif "sometimes that life chooses you back。"That is the most touching sentence I've read in as long as I can recall of late。 This was a story that was sweet yet bittersweet, magical yet bureaucratic。。。。。I love that this story shows acceptance both of love being love and of differences people can have。 It's deep and yet couched in words that make it that I'm as comfortable with my 11 year old reading it asi was with my reading。。。 Ok maybe not fully but only coz my kid, Talia and Lucy would be a terrifying three amigos and I prefer not giving them ideas。 But I'd give my nieces and nephews this book。 。。。more

This is now one of my favorite books of all time。 Every character is unique and oh so charming! The book is full of magic and wonder and love。 You will route for every character as they learn to be brave and love themselves for who they are and fight against a world that doesn’t understand them。 I want to immediately start reading it again, and I just might。

A lovely book with many relevant themes and parallels with what’s happening in the world today。

Loved it。 The characters were just so lovable。 The kids were different and people feared them but as we got to know them we could see how creative and lovable the kids are。 As I was listening to the story, I caught myself smiling a lot at what the kids say。

I could write a whole essay on this book -- and I know I've written essay-length reviews for books before, but this time I really mean it。 I could write an essay, complete with motifs and themes and discussions about flat vs。 round characters or whatever else you include in a literary essay。 But I'm tired and I don't feel like writing an essay, and if we're being honest I might reach the character limit on Goodreads again。 Also no one wants to sit through two-thousand words of that。 So I'm going I could write a whole essay on this book -- and I know I've written essay-length reviews for books before, but this time I really mean it。 I could write an essay, complete with motifs and themes and discussions about flat vs。 round characters or whatever else you include in a literary essay。 But I'm tired and I don't feel like writing an essay, and if we're being honest I might reach the character limit on Goodreads again。 Also no one wants to sit through two-thousand words of that。 So I'm going to keep it brief: I loved it。 Read it。 You won't regret it。 Even the slow parts were so incredibly soft and lovely that they didn't feel slow。 You couldn't help but enjoy every second。 Someday, I will reread it, and I will love it equally as much (if not more)。 Linus and Arthur。 (Linus is such a fitting name, and Lucy is an apt nickname considering Lucy's full name, but I couldn't help but think of Linus and Lucy。 There was even a side character named Charles。 It's the whole Peanut Gang)I knew he was magic (name not included to keep this review spoiler free)。 The synopsis was slightly deceiving。 There was no real risk of the End of Days -- just a great, beautiful character moment for Linus。 Multiple, actually, but I'm referring to one in particular。 Natural, slow character growth and wholesome characters and relationships that make you smile。 That kiss made me cheer out loud。 I do wish we got just a touch more of the children。 Especially Lucy。 But I love them all anyway。 The writing just flows。 "He couldn't believe it was only Wednesday。 And it was made worse when he realized it was actually Tuesday。" (page 18)。 This is where I fell in love with the book。 And I think I read this on a Tuesday。 Anyway, it was lovely。 Someone at my book club recommended it to me, and I'm so upset I wasn't able to make the last meeting。 Regardless, I'll now be returning to my never-ending Percy Jackson reread, and then I'll be reading another TJ Klune book (which, off-topic, but I wonder if TJ are his initials, or an abbreviation of his first name?)。 I suggest you do the same。 。。。more

I think this book is a victim of its own success - I heard so many things about it that I was expecting something way more impactful than what it actually was。 Nice。 Heartwarming。 Escapist。

Or will what he learns change his life?REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The House in the Cerulean Sea is a wonderful tale of finding the place you belong。 I started the book feeling unsure of if I would like it, as it’s been a while since I’ve read any fantasy。 I was quickly sucked right in! The imagery, the character growth, the endless wisdom–it all worked very well for me。TJ Klune created characters that you can’t help but fall in love with。 Being a teacher, I loved the interactions the children had with each other and the adults in the book。 I often found myself giggling and smiling。 I highly recommend this book! I felt many emotions, but the biggest one I felt was hope。“Sometimes, he thought to himself in a house in a cerulean sea, you were able to choose the life you wanted。 And if you were of the lucky sort, sometimes that life chose you back。” 。。。more

An enchanting, enjoyable, and beautiful story。 This is what should be called the feel good book of summer and should be read by all。 Children will wonder and marvel in the magic and the splendor; the adults will, too - and will also appreciate what was well written between the lines。 When you view the world through the eyes of a child, you see the entire spectrum of colors without definitions or labels。

I really enjoyed this book, although I was expecting something completely different! His writing is close to that of Matt Haig, emotional and deeply human, but I preferred Haig’s writing。 I did like the LGBTQ characters in this book, as I don’t think they have enough visibility in popular books (although that’s slowly changing for the better!)

A sweet read with a like-able cast of creatively developed characters, many of whom are magical children。 Linus Baker, an employee of DICOMY (Department in Charge of Magical Youth) goes to Cerulean Island to make sure the children are safe and well cared for。 There, he discovers unique children, an unexpected love and gains a new perspective on his own life back “home。” Cute, easy read。

Awwwww! This was such a feel-good, wholesome read。 Wow。My main thought reading this was: if Milo from The Phantom Tollbooth, one of my favorites, grew up to have a humdrum life (ha, humdrum。 Some Tollbooth humor right there), he'd be Linus。 (Linus is the greatest name for a character, along with Gilbert。 Fact。) This book had the whimsy and adventure and lovability of Tollbooth, and it brought me great joy。I LOVED these kids。 Nothing like a found family story full of distinctly lovely character Awwwww!
